Dan Mullins put out an invitation for people to join him on a special Musical Camino in May 2024. Pilgrims who walked with him contributed financially to help raise funds and support the recording of a professionally produced studio album. 35 signed up, and had an adventure of a lifetime.
Many people had expressed an interest in accompanying Dan on this truly unique experience. But due to timing, lack of funds, or health issues, are unable to make the three week hike.
It seemed like an obvious thing to do, to document this journey for those who couldn’t be there, and allow viewers to experience some of the music and Camino magic. And majesty of the incredible country of Spain.
When we started talking about the idea, we realized it would also be an opportunity to make a film that is a love letter to the Camino de Santiago and Spain.
There have been documentaries that highlight how the Camino is a life-changing religious or spiritual journey, how it can make us look at the world differently when we return home. How lifelong friendships are made. But there are other things that make the Camino so incredible that aren’t talked about very much. And should be. The country of Spain itself. The culture, the people, the rich history, architecture, food. And the changing landscapes as we walk.
So our idea is to weave those things into Dan’s story, and create something that is part travel guide too. We want this film to be a great resource for those who haven’t yet walked the Camino.
Somewhere Along The Way will tell an enthralling inspirational story about one man, and the regions of Spain he walks through will be the supporting cast.
During his second Camino his only objective was to carry his guitar and play for whomever asked. On that walk he wrote Somewhere Along The Way, a song that has become a Camino anthem. For Dan, the Camino and music are intrinsically linked.
BEHIND THE SCENES
The crew, from left to right: Simon Burn, Dan Mullins, Dave Hall, and Andy Holloway
Each evening, when we arrived at our destination, filming was easier because we could drop off our backpacks.
During the day, on the trail, it was run-and-gun style of shooting, carrying everything as we walked.
This film has been made possible by the generous support of fellow pilgrims.
As we enter post-production, we’re looking at theatrical releases, and the possibility of film festivals, and special Camino community events. There are a lot of expenses involved with preparing and packaging a film, so we are looking for sponsors and funding.
If there are any corporations or brands looking to get involved in a passionate community-driven project, we’d love to talk to you.
We also have a GoFundMe page. many thanks.
